Building houses is a pretty thoroughly undertaken duty here in the urban city of Lahore. No matter where you go, whatever road you may find your car rolling on, there is always going to be a construction project going on by the side of the road, all the tall, steel bars or load bearing walls holding the under-construction building together, like a mother bear being notoriously protective of her young cubs. Briefly put, Pakistan is a country bustling with construction activity going on in every city. Consequently, the construction industry here is abuzz with activity.
Here, civil infrastructure is mostly utilizing concrete that is reinforced with steel rebars. This in turn adds on the strength of concrete and steel rebar, along with its innate ductility, giving the desired performance attribute to the building being constructed. Steel reinforcements, or steel rebars, are important components of a grey structure construction of a house. Without the use of rebar, concrete itself is not strong enough to withhold the entire weight of the construction. Therefore, steel is used in the form of meshes to not only provide strength to the concrete, but also to hold it tightly together. Steel rebar is produced in two grades:
- Grade 40
- Grade 60
The steel rebar used in construction is: Deformed and Tor Bar. Pakistan has many best operating companies that are providing top notch quality of steel rebar throughout the country.
- Caravan Group
- Saeed Kasur
It is advisable to use steel rebar of a reputable company for best quality and superior performing capabilities. As there are many small scale companies, or street wandering bearers, operating that offer duplicated steel products, of lower quality, which are hard to distinguish by an average onlooker and only experienced professionals in the field would be able to discern between real and fake steel rebar.
Steel is mostly purchased in bulk which is transported at the site of construction. Many fraudulent suppliers of steel rebar deceive the buyer into purchasing large quantities of steel rebar at lower rates, but do not fall prey to this scheme!
