If you live in Punjab, the word construction is not new to you. Because in the past 10 years the magnitude of construction that we have seen, no other province has seen it. And being a Pakistani we all have seen our house or some nearby house being constructed, because our people relish to build their own house rather than buying a fully built home.
The techniques and materials of the construction vary for every country. Choosing the construction materials is dependent on many factors such as climate of the area, durability, cost, availability of the material and lastly but not the least the appeal of the material. There are many natural construction materials that are used in construction such as rocks, mud and clay, metal, wood, bricks concrete, ceramics, plastic and cement.
The basic materials that are used for construction in Pakistan:
Clay bricks are the most used construction material in Pakistan. It is made locally and the price of grade 1 bricks is 800 to 1000 PKR.
Concrete is a very strong and long lasting material that is why it is one of the famous building materials. The current rate of concrete is PKR 50 to 55 per block.
Sand has an important role in the construction as it lays the foundations of the buildings and it also involved in making concrete. The rate of sand per trolley is of 3200 to 4500 PKR.
Cement is a binding force for bricks and concrete blocks. It has various types. The current rate of a cement bag is PKR 600.
Steel is an important material for constructions as pillars and roofs cannot be built without it. Mostly Rebar is used which is a steel reinforcing bar and it is used for supporting concrete. The price of rebar is PKR 125,000 per ton.
There are three categories in which the construction cost is divided depending upon the construction material used: the first category construction costs 4000 to 4500 PKR per Square ft. it involves high quality materials of construction.
The second category construction is of medium quality products and costs between 3500 to 3800 PKR per Square ft. Third category construction costs 3000 to 3200 PKR per square ft. Houses are mostly based on contract basis so it is important to keep a track of market prices and quality because we all dream to have a safe home.
